The good old prusik knot is very, very useful. All you need is a loop of cord which you can make using 6 or 7 mm accessory cord and a double fisherman's knot. With one or two prusiks you can ascend a rope, or rig a z-pulley to haul up an injured climber, or backup an abseil. 6, record 1, English, - Prusik%20knot

5, record 1, French, - n%26oelig%3Bud%20de%20Prusik

For a French Prusik/Autoblock, clip a karabiner into both ends. This version is best when you don’t want the knot to jam at all except when heavily loaded, e. g., when abseiling. It is not a good knot for prusiking as if grabbed it will release and slide. 5, record 2, English, - French%20Prusik

The autoblock knot, also called a French Prusik knot, is an easy-to-tie and versatile friction knot that is used as a safety back-up knot on a rappel rope. 5, record 2, French, - n%26oelig%3Bud%20autobloquant%20Machard

The Klemheist knot(or Machard knot) is a type of friction hitch used as a part of a system to ascend or descend a climbing rope.... A Prusik loop is wrapped round the climbing rope two or three times. The loop is then threaded through itself and carefully tightened to wrap the climbing rope neatly. In use, strain must only be taken on the hanging loop. Never grip and pull on the knot itself-a rapid descent can occur! If the knot slips when load is placed on the hanging loop, wrap the loop around the climbing rope another time or two as necessary until there is no slippage. 6, record 4, English, - Klemheist%20knot
Record number: 4, Textual support number: 2 CONT
The knot is tied with a thin cord, usually 5 mm or 6 mm in diameter, onto the rope. The climber then attaches himself to the knot by clipping the cord onto his harness. Progress up a fixed rope is made by sliding the knot up the rope and then weighting or loading it with the climber’s weight. When loaded, the Klemheist knot cinches onto the climbing rope, allowing the climber to progress upward. When the knot is unloaded, it loosens, allowing the climber to slide it up the rope. 7, record 4, English, - Klemheist%20knot
