The good old prusik knot is very, very useful. All you need is a loop of cord which you can make using 6 or 7 mm accessory cord and a double fisherman’s knot. Prusik (nœud de) [...] la boucle étant tenue allongée, il suffit d'enrouler les deux brins chacun un tour et demi autour de la corde en ayant soin de les faire passer deux fois entre la corde et la cordelette. Ce nœud est fait de manière à serrer très énergiquement lorsqu'on tire sur la boucle, de sorte que celle-ci ne puisse pas, sous l'effet d'une traction, glisser le long de la corde. Par contre, lorsque la traction est supprimée, il est facile de desserrer le nœud et la corde glisse librement.
