One of the 150 such songs contained in the biblical book of Psalms or Psalter. They have always been looked on as the incomparable expression of prayer and they form the basis of the Divine Office in all the old Christian Churches whether Catholic or not.

This psalm vividly presents before our mind our own nothingness before God's majesty, our absolute dependence on Him, the fact that we belong to Him; and moreover, in praying it, we live the truth.
