Record 1 2024-04-09

English

Subject field(s)
  • Mental Disorders
  • Nervous System
CONT

Dementia with Lewy bodies(DLB) is a type of progressive dementia that leads to a decline in thinking, reasoning and independent function. Its features may include spontaneous changes in attention and alertness, recurrent visual hallucinations, REM [rapid eye movement] sleep behavior disorder, and slow movement, tremors or rigidity.

OBS

Lewy body dementia; LBD: Even though some authors use the designation "Lewy body dementia" to refer to "dementia with Lewy bodies," it should be avoided since "Lewy body dementia" refers to a category of diseases that includes "dementia with Lewy bodies."

OBS

dementia with Lewy bodies; DLB; Lewy body dementia; LBD: The word "dementia" is sometimes considered pejorative.

Key term(s)

CONT

Sleep architecture represents the cyclical pattern of sleep as it shifts between the different sleep stages, including non-rapid eye movement(NREM) and rapid eye movement(REM) sleep. Sleep architecture allows us to produce a picture of what our sleep looks like over the course of a night, taking into account various depths of sleep as well as arousal to wakefulness. Sleep architecture can be represented by a graph called a hypnogram.

CONT

  • Human Diseases - Various
  • Nervous System
  • Clinical Psychology
DEF

[A disorder characterized by] repeated episodes of arousal, often associated with vocalizations and/or complex motor behaviors arising from REM sleep [associated with] clinically significant distress or impairment ...

OBS

[The] behaviors arise during rapid eye movement(REM) sleep and therefore usually occur more than 90 minutes after sleep onset, are more frequent during the later portions of the sleep period, and uncommonly occur during daytime naps.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Maladies humaines diverses

  • Psychologie clinique
DEF

At about eight months of age, as the human brain develops, active sleep becomes rapid eye movement sleep(REM) and quiet sleep becomes non-rapid eye movement sleep(NREM).

English

Subject field(s)
  • General Medicine, Hygiene and Health
DEF

A state of deep usually dreamless sleep that occurs regularly during a normal period of sleep with intervening periods of REM [rapid eye movement] sleep and that is characterized by delta waves and a low level of autonomic physiological activity.

OBS

Together, NREM [non-rapid eye movement] sleep stages 3 and 4 are often known as slow wave sleep(SWS).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Médecine générale, hygiène et santé
OBS
