En effet, lorsque les températures printanières permettent la reprise de la végétation en mai, la longueur du jour dépasse la longueur critique et il n'y a pas d'initiation florale au printemps. La situation est beaucoup plus complexe dans les cultures protégées et les zones méridionales où une initiation florale de printemps peut se produire. Dans ces conditions en effet l'initiation florale va dépendre de 2 facteurs : de la précocité du départ en végétation de la culture et des basses températures hivernales. De la précocité de croissance des plantes au printemps dépend le nombre de bourgeons qui se développeront pendant la période où la durée du jour sera inférieure à la photopériode critique; des basses températures hivernales dépend leur aptitude à être initiés. En effet, les basses températures hivernales nécessaires pour assurer une bonne croissance au printemps (voir paragraphe dormance) ont une action inhibitrice sur l'initiation florale; cette période inhibitrice est temporaire, sa durée dépend de la quantité de froid subie par la plante (quantité qu'on ne sait pas évaluer aujourd'hui).

Gyro de transfert. La grande problématique du navigateur était de décoller avec un cap vrai le plus précis possible pour se garantir une navigation sans trop d'histoires. Il avait été imaginé un conservateur de cap installé dans une Renault 4L qui stationnait près du bureau de piste. Avant chaque départ en mission la 4L était utilisée pour caler la centrale gyroscopique du Mirage IV au moyen du gyro de transfert prévu à cet effet dans son coffre. Cette solution assez contraignante a été abandonnée lorsqu'il est apparu que le calage manuel de la centrale, avion aligné sur l'axe de piste, était d'une précision suffisante.

There are three types of fluorescent circuits :rapid start, instant start and preheat. The preheat circuit was used when fluorescent lamp first came available. This technology is very little used today, except for low-wattage magnetic ballast applications such as compact fluorescents. A separate starting switch, called a starter, is used to aid in forming the arc. The filament needs some time to reach proper temperature so the lamp does not strike for a few seconds.
