  • Remote Sensing
  • Hydrology and Hydrography
CONT

Shallow-water bathymetry is important for many survey applications, some of which include port and harbour navigation and inspection, environmental assessment and mapping, underwater construction and rapid area assessment. Many of these surveys are conducted in water depths of less than 20 meters and require accurate, high-resolution data with the ability to detect small objects while providing full bottom coverage.

OBS

bathymetry: The measurement of water depths in oceans, seas, and lakes; also information derived from such measurements.

OBS

bathymétrie : Mesure, par sondage, des profondeurs d'eau et traitement des données correspondantes.

CONT

Rapid Contamination Survey. The purpose of this survey is to obtain samples required to quickly identify areas having removable contaminants. The wipe sample is useful for detecting the presence of contaminants from a weapon-handling accident(alpha) and/or from fallout(beta-gamma). This survey should be made after any event suspected of contaminating the ship. It should be repeated after known or possible significant changes in the amount or distribution of contamination.

DEF

CONT

If the pushbroom sensors are capable of starboard and port viewing, SIS [Sensor and Instrument System] could be designed for simultaneous broad area searches and rapid motion detection. By positioning the panchromatic scan line slightly ahead of or slightly behind the multispectral scan line, the sensors could perform a broad area survey and then the two acquired images could be digitally merged together to detect rapid movements. This technique has been applied to SPOT imagery.
