Semi-conductors are usually mixtures of oxydes which have been "doped" by small concentrations of certain elements, usually a rare earth. Their electrical conductivity when heated(by a platinum-rhodium wire) is altered appreciably by the presence of small concentrations of flammable and certain toxic gases.... The resistance of a semi-conductor gas detector is measured by small electrodes... 1, record 1, English, - semi%2Dconductor%20gas%20detector

Hydrargyrum medium-arc iodide, or HMI®, is a mercury-halide gas discharge medium arc-length lamp with a multi-line spectra emission. The name implies that hydrargyrum, an archaic term for Mercury(Hg), is held as a vapour mixed with other rare halides in a quartz-glass envelope with two tungsten-coated electrodes of medium arc separation. Unlike traditional tungsten lighting units, HMI(R) s use ballasts to regulate and supply electricity to the lamp head via a header cable. The lamp operates not by heating a tungsten-based filament, but rather by creating an electrical arc between two electrodes within the bulb that excites the pressurized mercury vapour and provides phenomenal light output with greater efficiency than tungsten-based lighting units. 3, record 2, English, - hydrargyrum%20medium%2Darc%20iodide%20technology

[Rare gases] are preferably called noble gases or (less accurately) inert gases. The first three have a valence of 0 and are truly inert, but the others can form compounds to a limited extent. 3, record 4, English, - noble%20gas
Record number: 4, Textual support number: 2 OBS
noble: In chemical terminology this term describes an element which either is completely unreactive or reacts only to a limited extent with other elements. Six noble gases constitute a group in the Periodic Table that is variously called the zero group (as the first three of its members have a valence of zero), the inert gas group, and the noble gas group. The last is preferable, as three of the gases, through unreactive, are not inert. 3, record 4, English, - noble%20gas
