A bitumen obtained after the final stage of distillation of a petroleum of a suitable type.

The asphalt-base petroleum will produce asphalt by a physical process. During the distillation, several different fractions are separated from the petroleum ... When the distillation process is controlled so that overheating and subsequent chemical changes do not take place, the asphalt residue that remains is called a straight-run asphalt. Generally, a two-step operation is used.

OBS

There is some question as to whether these terms may also refer to a blend of different grades of straight-run bitumen.

Les bitumes purs : ainsi dénommés car obtenus par divers procédés de raffinage à partir de bruts pétroliers. Ils ne comportent aucun ajout destiné à en modifier la consistance ou les propriétés.

Les bitumes de distillation directe, produits au cours de la distillation du pétrole; celle-ci est généralement conduite en deux étapes : la première à pression atmosphérique, la seconde sous vide. Le type de ces bitumes en est le Mexphalte 40/50 (SHELL), produit généralement utilisé en France et convenant pour l'enrobage des déchets qui, après immobilisation, intègrent une dose de rayonnement ne dépassant pas 1.108rads.

L'extrusion. Ce procédé est applicable à une grande variété de déchets : solutions aqueuses, concentrats d'évaporation, boues de traitements chimiques, échangeurs d'ions, cendres d'incinération. Il peut utiliser les deux classes de bitume : bitumes de distillation directe et bitumes soufflés, mais il est particulièrement adapté à la mise en œuvre des secondes qui, à basse température, donnent des enrobés visqueux.

Air-Rectification of Refinery Bitumen :Bitumen produced by straight steam-refining from certain crude oils may be deficient in the components of very high molecular weight which are insoluble in heptane, the "asphaltene" fraction... It is the common practice of bitumen producers in the United Kingdom to increase the asphaltene content of low-asphaltene material by oxidation of the hot straight-run bitumen by a current of air blown through it. This process must not be confused with that used to produce the so-called "blown" grades of bitumen.
