Record 2 2004-08-04

English

Subject field(s)
  • Photography
DEF

The measurement by a light meter of the amount of reflected light being bounced off the subject.

OBS

This is the normal way of metering the brightness of a scene to be photographed. This takes into account the color and reflectivity of the subject as well as the brightness of the illuminating source.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Photographie
DEF

CONT

The incident light reading is technically more accurate than reflected light reading because it involves measurement of the brightness of the illuminating source, regardless of the subject. A reflected light reading is taken from camera position, but an incident light reading involves aiming the meter, fitted with an incident light adapter, toward the light source from subject position. On this basis, subjects reproduce as dark or light in the picture according to their natural reflectivity.

OBS

This method is best for color reversal work or the photography of very dark or light subjects.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Photographie
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Photography
DEF

A card with an 18 percent gray tint(reflectance) used to determine exposure by taking a meter reading from subject light reflected by the card.

CONT

Neutral test card. A panel, usually with an 18% reflectance gray surface on one side and a 90% reflectance white surface on the other. Such a card is useful as a standard object for light measurement in estimating the required camera settings, and also for checking color balance in color images.

  • grey card

French

Domaine(s)

DEF
