One very important aspect of building renovation is the deconstruction phase. In the past, preparing for renovation meant demolition, with materials pulled out of the building(wood, metal, drywall, etc.), mixed together and disposed in the landfill. Gradually this cradle to grave approach to deconstruction is being replaced with reuse and reduced waste goals, reflecting a cradle to cradle mentality.... so much deconstruction material is high value and can be reused, resold or recycled if carefully separated. 1, record 4, English, - deconstruction%20material

2, record 4, French, - mat%C3%A9riau%20de%20d%C3%A9construction

In order to use... a [laser] medium as [an] optical oscillator, the optical gain arising from the inverted population must exceed the loss in the resonator... To accomplish this, the optical path through the laser material is made long in one direction, and highly reflecting mirrors are placed so that they send the light back and forth along the length of the material. The mirrors provide feedback... and thereby convert the optical amplifier into an optical oscillator. Oscillation than takes place only between the mirrors. 3, record 7, English, - oscillator

Another innovation is the back-surface reflector(BSR). Even in photovoltaic devices operating at theoretical maximum efficiency, less than 40% of the light to which it is sensitive is absorbed by the cell and converted to electricity. The rest travels through unabsorbed and becomes a system loss. However, the BSR reflects this light back through the cell for a second pass, which greatly increases the conversion efficiency. Also, the BSR reflects radiation to which the cell is not sensitive. This radiation is called out-of-band radiation, and cannot be converted to electricity with this given material bandgap. By reflecting the out-of-band radiation back through the cell, it passes back out the front to the heat source where it is recycled.(Essentially, it helps keep the heat source hot so less fuel is required.) 2, record 13, English, - back%20surface%20reflector

The laser(or lidar) velocimeter [lidar=light radar] operates in a fashion entirely analogous to that of the airborne Doppler weather radars likely soon to be available for detecting turbulence in storm cells. As with radars, the device detects air movements by observing the motion of particles suspended in the air and carried with it. The only significant difference is that a beam of coherent infrared radiation is used to scan ahead of the aircraft, instead of a beam(or series of pulses) of radio energy in the considerably longer-wavelength microwave band. The frequency of the back-scattered echoes or reflections undergoes Doppler shift detection by standard heterodyning techniques, which involve comparing the frequency of the reflected illumination with that of the original laser beam. Any reflecting object or material which has motion relative to the transmitter/receiver will cause a detectable shift in frequency, which can be isolated from the transmitter's own proper motion(over the ground) and thus yield a precise indication of the speed at which the air is moving several hundred metres in front of the aircraft. From this data, it is easy to compute what the air speed of the aircraft will be when it reaches that particular patch of air in a few seconds’ time [and hence detect possible turbulence ahead]. 2, record 16, English, - laser%20velocimeter

A shell-shaped or concave recess of reflecting material should be build behind the performers to act as a mirror to throw out the sound on a more or less plane wave-front... If this reflector consists of wood sheathing against the wall, it is well to leave a space by supporting the wood on studs away from the wall.
