A reverberation artifact occurs when two parallel highly echogenic structures [cause] the sound wave to bounce back and forth between them multiple times. The echo that returns to the transducer after a single reflection will be displayed in the proper location. The additional and sequential echoes are interpreted as [coming from deeper in the tissue than] the original reflector since they take longer to reach the transducer. 3, record 1, English, - reverberation%20artifact

As sound waves leave one medium and enter another, such as an air borne wave in a room reaching a brick wall, the wave will undergo certain characteristics. A portion of the wave will attempt to pass through the medium, while the balance of the wave will reflect back off the wall. Sound wave reflection occurs with that portion of the energy that stays contained to within the room. 1, record 2, English, - sound%20wave%20reflection

Far noise field of air jets and jet engines. An experimental investigation was conducted to study and compare the acoustic radiation of air jets and jet engines. A number of different nozzle-exit shapes were studied with air jets to determine the effect of exit shape on noise generation. Circular, square, rectangular, and elliptical convergent nozzles and convergent-divergent and plug nozzles were investigated. The spectral distributions of the sound power for the engine and the air jet were in good agreement for the case where the engine data were not greatly affected by reflection or jet interference effects. Such power spectra for a subsonic or slightly choked engine or air jet show that the peaks of the spectra occur at a Strouhal number of 0. 3. 2, record 8, English, - far%20noise%20field

The density of liquids can be measured with acoustic techniques. This is done by measuring sound velocity and acoustic impedance of the liquid. The presented work describes a novel ultrasonic density sensor that determines the sound reflection coefficient to measure the acoustic impedance of the liquid. It aims to be suitable for industrial applications by achieving a high measurement accuracy while meeting the mechanical and chemical conditions of the process. The high accuracy is obtained with the help of an additional reference measurement inside the sensor. 2, record 11, English, - density%20sensor

The primary challenge in acoustic modeling is computation of reverberation paths from a sound's source position to a listener's receiving position. As sound may travel from source to receiver via a multitude of reflection, transmission, and diffraction paths, accurate simulation is extremely compute intensive. 2, record 19, English, - acoustic%20modeling

Computer-aided acoustic modeling tools are important for design and simulation of three dimensional environments. For instance, an architect might use such a tool to evaluate the acoustic properties of a proposed auditorium design. Or, a factory designer might be able to predict the sound levels of any machine at any position on a factory floor. Acoustic modeling can also be used to provide sound cues to aid understanding, navigation, and communication in interactive rates. For example, the voices of users sharing a virtual environment may be spatialized according to each user’s avatar location. 2, record 19, English, - acoustic%20modeling
