The focusing algorithm places all reflectors in their correct physical positions and thus allows relatively simple separation of reflections coming from above surface reflectors, the air-ground interface and buried objects. This substantially simplifies the task of object detection. Furthermore, the focusing algorithm reconstructs the reflector shape(how accurately this is done depends on the focusing algorithm)... 2, record 1, English, - focusing%20algorithm

A technique for determining, by tracing imaginary rays of light from the viewer’s eye to the objects in a scene, the parts of the scene that should be displayed in the resulting display image. 6, record 3, English, - ray%20tracing
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Ray-tracing technique relies on an extremely time-consuming algorithm to compute the reflection and refraction of light from the surfaces of imaginary objects. Basically the computer program traces individual light rays, starting at the viewpoint and passing backward through each pixel in the image plane until the ray hits a surface. The reflected ray is then continued to see if it could have come from a light source, either directly or after reflection from another object. For a transparent surface a second, refracted ray must also be traced. 7, record 3, English, - ray%20tracing

Double rainbows are fairly common.... the primary rainbow appears opposite the sun at an angular distance of about 42 degrees from the antisolar point. The primary bow is the result of a refraction as a ray of sunlight enters the drop, one internal reflection off the back of the drop, and a second refraction as the ray exits the drop. The geometry for the secondary bow is similar except that there are two internal reflections inside the drop. This geometry results in the appearance of the secondary rainbow at an angular distance of about 51 degrees, outside the primary bow. 2, record 13, English, - primary%20rainbow

Groutite occurs in two distinct habits. The first of these, reported by Klein and Frondel(1967), occurs as platy, irregular, bladed, opaque 0. 5 mm crystals, black, with strong reddish-brown internal reflections and perfect {010} cleavage(Figure 22-57). This groutite is rare; only one specimen is known. The more common groutite is strongly prismatic in habit, opaque, and black(Figures 22-58 and 22-59). Groutite also occurs as dense mats of thin acicular reddish-brown crystals(Figure 22-60). It is best identified using X-ray diffraction techniques. 3, record 27, English, - groutite

ionospheric propagation mode. A single ray path between the transmitter and receiver. An ionospheric propagation path may comprise several different individual paths, all of which can propagate the signal from the transmitter to the receiver. The mode is labeled in terms of the number of reflections it experiences for each of the layers from which it is reflected. The simplest ionospheric mode is a single hop path having one reflection on the ionosphere... More complex modes can have several reflections from a layer... and may also have reflections from more than one layer... 3, record 34, English, - ionospheric%20propagation%20mode

Magneto-optics is the study of effects arising from the interaction of light with magnetized media. Initially linearly polarized light, after interaction with such materials, can exhibit both ellipticity and a rotation of the polarization state. These effects are generally categorized into two phenomena, the Faraday Effect which occurs when electro-magnetic radiation is transmitted through a magnetized media, and the Kerr Effect which deals with reflections from the magnetized media. The Magneto-Optical Kerr Effect(MOKE) is further categorized by the direction of the magnetization vector with respect to the reflection surface and the plane of incidence... If the magnetization vector is perpendicular to the reflection surface and parallel to the plane of incidence, the effect is called the polar Kerr effect. As a matter of simplification, near normal incidence is usually employed when doing experiments in the polar geometry. In the longitudinal effect the magnetization vector is parallel to both the reflection surface and the plane of incidence. When the magnetization is perpendicular to the plane of incidence and parallel to the surface it is said to be in the transverse configuration. 2, record 36, English, - Magneto%2DOptical%20Kerr%20Effect

Magneto-optic Kerr effect(MOKE) is one of the magneto-optic effects. It describes changes of the reflections from the magnetized media. It is similar to the Faraday effect that describes the light passing through the media. The light that is reflected from a magnetized surface, changes in polarization. MOKE can be further categorized by the direction of the magnetization vector with respect to the reflection surface and the plane of incidence. When the magnetization vector is perpendicular to the reflection surface and parallel to the plane of incidence, the effect is called the polar Kerr effect. 2, record 56, English, - polar%20Kerr%20effect

The TOPEX/Poseidon(T/P) altimetry data were obtained mountainous topography may lead the altimeter to lock off completely, requiring some time to lock on again, even over water and for narrow rivers, the instrument may deliver no reliable measurement at all. In other cases, the instrument could remain locked on water while the satellite is well ahead of the water body, since the reflected signal on water has more power than the reflected signal on land. This may cause a geometric error that could reach several meters for some regions. In order to minimise potential contamination of the T/P signal by land reflections, and at the same time to retain a sufficiently large number of altimeter measurements on water, we performed a geographical selection of the data. 2, record 63, English, - geometric%20error

Changes in the acidity of precipitation are reflections of changes in the balance between the major cations and anions in precipitation. Thus, to understand the acidity of precipitation, it is essential to measure all the major anions and cations in precipitation(especially H+, SO4=, NO3-, and NH4+, but also including K+, Na+, Ca+, Mg++, C1-, HCO3-, SO3=, and PO4=). 2, record 71, English, - dominant%20cation
