DEF

A system with one or more surfaces of low emissivity that reduces thermal radiation transfer.

OBS

reflective insulation : term and definition standardized by ISO.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Isolation thermique
DEF

Record 3 2014-10-17

English

Subject field(s)
  • Thermal Insulation
OBS

Reflective insulation. An insulating material used to retard the flow of heat by reflecting heat radiation; usually made of aluminum foil or sheets, although coated steel sheets, aluminized paper, gold and silver surfaces, and refractory metals at higher temperatures are also used.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Isolation thermique
CONT

Record 4 2011-11-16

English

Subject field(s)
  • Building Insulation and Acoustical Design
  • Thermal Insulation
CONT

Insulation : Material used to make a building more energy efficient and is located in roofs, walls and floors. They are classified according to form :(1) k) loose fill(2) flexible(3) rigid(4) reflective and(5) foamed-in-place. All types [are] rated according to their ability to resist heat flow(R-Value)... Flexible-composed of organic fibers generally used in areas where it is not practical to install AE fill or where the attached foil or Kraft paper facing is desired as a vapor barrier. Flexible insulation's can be wrapped with Kraft paper on the edges and a vapor barrier on one or both sides. Faces has a vapor barrier on one side only.

OBS

flexible insulation: term officially approved by the Lexicon Project Committee (New Brunswick).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Isolation et acoustique architecturale
  • Isolation thermique
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Building Insulation and Acoustical Design
  • Natural Construction Materials
  • Plywood
DEF

The ability of a wood-derived panel to offer a good thermal resistance, generally expressed in heat conductivity values.

OBS

Satisfactory thermal insulation can best be obtained with sandwich panels by using cores having low thermal conductivity although the use of reflective layers on the facings is of some value. Paper honeycomb cores have thermal conductivity values(k values) ranging from 0. 30 to 0. 65 British thermal units per hour per 1 °F. per square foot per inch of thickness....
