Record 2 2008-02-11

English

Subject field(s)
  • Energy Transformation
  • Solar Energy
DEF

A solar energy concentrating technology that uses a linear receiver that tracks the focal area of a reflector or array of reflectors.

OBS

The reflective surface may be built in larger units than can tracking collectors, as the mirrored element is stationary, and as a result, the tracking system has to move only the reciever.

OBS

Solar concentrating systems with a stationary spherical primary collector, often called a "hemispherical bowl" or FMDF (Fixed Mirror Distributed Focus) have been proposed and built.

Domaine(s)

  • Énergie solaire
DEF

Record 3 2004-10-19

English

Subject field(s)
  • Mirrors
  • Optical Instruments
  • Optics
DEF

... the principal light-gathering surface of a reflective telescope.

CONT

The primary mirror is located at the lower end of the telescope tube in a reflector and has its front surface coated with an extremely thin film of metal, such as aluminum. The back of the mirror is usually made of glass, although other materials have been used from time to time. Pyrex(trademark) was the principal glass of choice for many of the older large telescopes, but new technology has led to the development and widespread use of a number of glasses with very low coefficients of expansion.

Domaine(s)
  • Glaces et miroiterie
  • Instruments d'optique
  • Optique
CONT
