An individual' s retinal pattern consists of blood vessels that are unique in the same way fingerprints are unique. The center of the eye is scanned with a very low-intensity light that produces light-emitting diodes(LEDs). With the enterer's eye socket pressed against the device, a target is visible. In January 2004, the Visual Electrodiagnostic Laboratory incorporated optical coherence tomography (OCT) and scanning laser ophthalmoscope (SLO/OCT) imaging to assess the retinal structural integrity in patients with disease of the macula and/or optic nerve head. Iris recognition is based on comparing patterns in the iris - the exterior, visible colored part of the eye. Retinal scans look at the vascular patterns inside the eye found on the retina.
