Approximate figures are sufficient for many uses. In rounding the exact figures to approximations, it is customary to round the digits after one of the commas which are used to separate the digits into groups of three. That is, numbers should be rounded off to the units of thousands, millions, or billions, rather than other units.

Les erreurs de calcul numérique informatique sont inévitables, sauf dans les problèmes triviaux. Il peut s'agir d'erreur de troncature ou d'erreur de représentation. Les erreurs de troncature résultent d'une approximation d'un processus infini par un processus fini, par exemple l'approximation d'une intégrale définie par une somme finie. Les erreurs de représentation sont commises pour permettre à des valeurs non représentables exactement d'être représentées approximativement. L'erreur la plus fréquente de représentation est l'erreur d'arrondi : la plupart des nombres ne peuvent pas être représentés exactement et doivent être légèrement modifiés pour être représentés. Les erreurs de troncature (aussi appelées erreurs de méthode) sont dues à une représentation algorithmique erronée tandis que les erreurs d'arrondi résultent d'une représentation erronée des données. Ces erreurs étant inévitables, il est donc de la plus grande importance de savoir comment elles s'amplifient dans un calcul.

Ceci est dû à l'erreur d'arrondissement - Statistique Canada arrondit à 0 ou à 5 - qui peut être assez importante dans le cas d'une population aussi peu nombreuse que celle des francophones du Yukon.
