The flagship urban-development project of the NCC in the last several decades has been Confederation Boulevard-the Capital' s ceremonial and discovery route. In collaboration with federal and municipal partners, the NCC designed and constructed this 7. 5-kilometre route around the heart of Canada's Capital Region. Aside from providing an elegant streetscape for some of the most important sites and institutions of the nation, the Boulevard is a focus for year-round national celebrations, events and interpretation programs that help people to discover important aspects of Canada's government, culture, heritage, landscape and relations with other nations of the world. The idea for a ceremonial route in the heart of the Capital goes back to the 19th century. However, it was not until 1967-centennial year-that planners began to talk about a ceremonial route for processions and state visits, as a unifying element in the core areas of Ottawa, Ontario, and Hull(now Gatineau), Quebec, and as a vehicle for communicating the Capital of Canadians. Planning began in 1982 and construction in 1985. The central part of Confederation Boulevard was officially opened by Prime Minister Jean Chrétien on June 30, 2000. The last phase of three-phase construction will be completed in 2006. 1, record 4, English, - Confederation%20Boulevard

A computer aided routing system(CARS) determines a travel route between a user selected travel origin and travel destination following user selected waypoints along the way. A CARS database incorporates travel information selected from a range of multimedia sources about the transportation routes, waypoints, and geographically locatable points of interest(POIs) selected by the user along the travel route. The CARS software permits user selection of specified POI types within a user defined region of interest and user selection of particular POIs from the selected types within the region of interest. The transportation routes, waypoints, POIs and region of interest are identified in the computer by coordinate locations of a selected geographical coordinate system. The CARS software is constructed to present a user customized travelog for preview on the computer display of the user defined travel route. The travel planner can preview on the computer display a multimedia travelog particularly customized for the user defined travel route including multimedia information on the transportation routes, waypoints, and POIs selected by the user. The user can engage in an iterative trip planning process of revising the route and previewing travelogs of revised travel routes until a satisfactory travel route is determined. 3, record 7, English, - computer%2Daided%20routing%20system

Retention Trusts. In cases where holding companies have been established for estate planning purposes, right in such companies may be put into a trust for retention. In such circumstances, the trustee may not dispose of or otherwise affect the rights placed in trust. The Assistant Deputy Registrar General may serve as trustee of such trusts. In establishing such trusts, ministers may make arrangements to have third parties exercise their voting rights in relation to the shares in the holding company as long as such arrangements will not result in a conflict of interest. Ministers who have established such trusts cannot be consulted or informed of the disposition of any assets owned by the holding company that would be considered to be "controlled assets" under the terms of the guidelines applicable to ministers of the Crown. Retention trusts are a recent innovation, first permitted under the guidelines of April 1980 for ministers of the Crown. Because the retention trust requires the formation of a family holding company for estate planning purposes, it is not a vehicle which is suitable for many people.... The main advantage of the retention trust is that it is a useful divestment vehicle for ministers who have substantial assets and who have arrangements in place which require that the assets be held under proper management through a holding company. The disadvantage of such a trust is that it is a prohibitively expensive route to be followed by someone of modest means who would rather have had a frozen trust. 2, record 22, English, - retention%20trust
