Subject field(s)
  • Pharmacodynamics
  • Medication
CONT

Bioavailability refers to the rate and extent to which the API [active pharmaceutical ingredient], or its active moiety, is absorbed from a pharmaceutical product and becomes available at the site of action. It may be useful to distinguish between the "absolute bioavailability" of a given dosage form as compared with that(100%) following intravenous administration(e. g., oral solution vs. intravenous), and the "relative bioavailability" as compared with another form administered by the same or another non-intravenous route(e. g., tablets vs. oral solution).

CONT

... agents travel a predetermined route, typically comprised of multiple lakes within a watershed, and survey anglers that are actively fishing. Interview questions are designed to obtain information regarding the number of anglers in a party, number of rods used, the length of time fished, and the number of fish kept and released by species. This information is used to model fishery effects such as effort, catch rate, and harvest for various recreational fish species. Additionally, these surveys provide relevant biological information from the angled catch, such as fish lengths and weights.

CONT

By one route or another, man's SO2 emissions tend to be transformed to sulfuric acid, unless they are removed by dry deposition, washout and to a lesser extent, rainout near the sources, prior to oxidation. Particulate sulfates, including H2SO4 aerosol, has a much greater atmospheric lifetime than sulfur dioxide, since it has a substantially slower rate of dry deposition.

CONT

Ten countries set up a network of measuring stations where concentrations of sulfur dioxide and particulate sulfate in air and strong acid and sulfate in precipitation were determined.

OBS

particulate sulphate: term adopted by Environment Canada; used in the list of pollutants measured in the National Air Pollution Surveillance Network (NAPS). However, the IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry) recommends the form "sulfate" rather than "sulphate."

OBS

More often used in the plural form (particulate sulfates).

OBS

particulate sulphate: term extracted from the “Glossaire de l’environnement” and reproduced with permission of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.

Key term(s)

CONT

OBS

CONT

Absorption of Toxicants After Special Routes of Administration. Toxic agents usually enter the bloodstream of man after absorption from the skin, lungs, or gastrointestinal tract. However, in studying chemical agents, toxicologists frequently administer these chemicals to laboratory animals by various special routes, the most common of which are(1) intraperitoneal,(2) subcutaneous,(3) intramuscular, and(4) intravenous. The intravenous route of administration introduces the toxicant directly in the bloodstream and thus the process of absorption is eliminated.... Toxicants administered subcutaneously and intramuscularly are usually absorbed at a slower rate.
