ROUTING ALGORITHM [11 records]

Record 1 2020-11-04

English

Subject field(s)
  • Computer Mathematics
  • Internet and Telematics
DEF

An algorithm that constructs the static table to determine which node to send the packet to.

CONT

When a router uses a non-adaptive routing algorithm, it consults a static table in order to determine to which computer it should send a packet of data. This is in contrast to an adaptive routing algorithm, which bases its decisions on data which reflects current traffic conditions.

Key term(s)
  • nonadaptive routing algorithm

DEF

An algorithm that constructs the routing table based on the network conditions.

CONT

When a router uses an adaptive routing algorithm to decide the next computer to which to transfer a packet of data, it examines the traffic conditions in order to determine a route which is as near optimal as possible. For example, it tries to pick a route which involves communication lines which have light traffic. This strategy is in contrast to a non-adaptive routing algorithm.

Record 3 2020-11-04

English

Subject field(s)
  • Computer Mathematics
  • Internet and Telematics
CONT

The routing protocol is a routing algorithm that provides the best path from the source to the destination. The best path is the path that has the "least-cost path" from source to the destination.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Mathématiques informatiques
  • Internet et télématique
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Computer Mathematics
CONT

Existing routing algorithms can be divided into distributed routing algorithms and centralized routing algorithms. In the distributed routing algorithms, the routing path selection depends only on local information, thus this kind of algorithm has good scalability for large-scale networks.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Mathématiques informatiques
CONT

Existing routing algorithms can be divided into distributed routing algorithms and centralized routing algorithms ... In centralized routing algorithms, the network topology and energy consumption are known as a prior to sensor nodes.

DEF

A simple routing algorithm, in which every incoming packet is sent out on every outgoing line except the one it arrived on.

OBS

Flooding generates a vast number of duplicate packets. It is not practical, but used in military applications, where large numbers of IMPs [interface message processors] may be blown to bits and the robustness of flooding is desirable. Flooding is also used in distributed data base applications, when it is necessary to update all data bases concurrently.

DEF

  • Telecommunications Transmission
  • Air Communications (Air Forces)
  • Signals (Military)
DEF

A routing strategy based on the regular exchange of routing data between adjacent nodes.

OBS

Distributed routing algorithms provide the best reliability(adaptations to failed components) and efficiency. However, when the routing algorithm itself fails, the effects on the rest of the network can be disastrous.

DEF
