ROW CROP TILLAGE [4 records]

Record 1 2006-11-19

English

Subject field(s)
  • Agriculture - General
CONT

Common cultural practices include crop rotation, tillage, varying timing of planting or harvesting, planting trap crops, adjusting row width, healthy organic soils, cultivating suitable varieties, [etc].

CONT

Cropping practices and fertilizer use generally reflect the growing conditions in the major soil zones as shown on the soil zone map below.

OBS

Not to be confused with "agronomic practice" because "agronomic" has a "management" connotation that "cultural" doesn’t have.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Agriculture - Généralités
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Tillage Operations (Agriculture)
CONT

Conventional tillage for grain crops and row crops has long involved plowing, disking, and harrowing to prepare ground for seeding. Plowing turns the soil over and covers crop residues, usually producing a rough, cloddy surface. Disking breaks the clods into smaller pieces, and harrowing smooths and compacts the surface to form a seedbed.
