As an integral part of worldwide search and rescue, NOAA [National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration] operates the Search & Rescue Satellite Aided Tracking(SARSAT) System to locate those in distress almost anywhere in the world at anytime and in most conditions. The SARSAT system uses NOAA satellites in low-earth and geostationary orbits to detect and locate aviators, mariners, and land-based users in distress. The satellites relay distress signals from emergency beacons to a network of ground stations and ultimately to the U. S. Mission Control Center(USMCC) in Suitland, Maryland. The USMCC processes the distress signal and alerts the appropriate search and rescue authorities to who is in distress and, more importantly, where they are located. 4, record 1, English, - search%20and%20rescue%20satellite%20aided%20tracking%20system

Cospas-Sarsat is a satellite system designed to provide distress alert and location data to assist search and rescue(SAR) operations, using spacecraft and ground facilities to detect and locate the signals of distress beacons operating on 406 Megahertz(MHz) or 121. 5 MHz. The position of the distress and other related information is forwarded by the responsible Cospas-Sarsat Mission Control Center(MCC) to the appropriate SAR authorities. Its objective is to support all organizations in the world with responsibility for SAR operations, whether at sea, in the air or on land. 1, record 3, English, - Cospas%2DSarsat%20International%20Satellite%20System%20for%20Search%20and%20Rescue

1, record 3, French, - Syst%C3%A8me%20international%20Cospas%2DSarsat%20de%20satellites%20pour%20les%20recherches%20et%20le%20sauvetage
