Acceleration skid (acceleration scuff). Vehicles may leave these skids when drivers apply sufficient power to the driving wheels to cause them to skid on the road surface (i.e. lose adhesion with the road surface). The beginning portion of the mark is very dark, from the weight transfer of the vehicle (inertia). Tire tread rib marks may be visible. 5, record 1, English, - acceleration%20mark

Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The introduction on most modern cars of ABS [antilock braking system] is beginning to make skid marks less common. However, careful scene examination can reveal scuff marks from vehicles that have braked heavily albeit the ABS has activated. Where no skid or ABS scuff marks have been identified the collision investigator will have to resort to other methods to assess pre-impact speeds of involved vehicles. 1, record 2, English, - ABS%20scuff%20mark
