Earth artists rejected the traditional materials of sculpture in favour of ’actual' materials such as rocks, soil, turf and snow. They began by dumping quantities of earth onto the floors of art galleries and allowing it to form its own shape, then they dug into the earth's surface creating holes and trenches... Recently earth-moving equipment has been used to create large-scale monuments reminiscent of pre-historic earthworks. 1, record 18, English, - earth%20art

My copygraphic prints are artworks related to the so-called "new images, "generated through photo-electronic technologies. I synthesized them by projecting intense light perturbations through glass debris in a color laser photocopy machine. I work to extend its possibilities beyond those known. In short, it could be described as [the projection of] an evanescent sculpture... Usually titled using the term "scan, "my copygraphies are to art what tomography is to neurology : slices with no thickness, but with deep implications. Abstract textures obtained have an evocative power different than for figuration : they pull to [the] surface subconscious states. Capitals were mostly based on variations of the plain cushion form; other details, such as corbels, are much more interesting at some of the village churches, where the old Anglo-Saxon traditions continue. This even applies to the relief carvings in the tympana, the spaces between the lintels and the arches of the doorways. -Taylor, Alec, The Cathedrals of England, London, 1967, p. 57). 1, record 52, English, - tympanum

Stucco, in art, is a fine plaster made of sand, water, lime, gypsum(plaster of Paris) and, sometimes, pulverized marble and glue, in varying proportions. It may be applied to interior or exterior walls or to ceilings, furniture, or sculpture to form a weatherproof coating, a smooth surface, or relief decoration achieved by modeling, molding, or stamping when wet or by incising when dry. It can also be formed into figures in the round. Stucco is white, but it may be tinted or painted. 3, record 67, English, - stucco

grisaille... Such works were often produced in the Renaissance to simulate sculpture, as in Uccello's equestrian portrait of Sir John Hawkswood(Cathedral of Florence). Painters of stained glass frequently used grisaille. In the 17th cent. grisaille was prized for interior decoration. 3, record 83, English, - grisaille

The use of the French word can be traced only to 1625, since although grisaille painting was done in preceding centuries, it was not referred to as such. The alternative expression "peinture en camaïeu (gris)" is also documented only more recently. In the 16th century there are occasional references to "dead colour", but this term is no longer used. At the time of its origin, in the medieval period, grisaille painting was simply called "painting in black and white", as is clear, for example, from an entry in the inventories of Jean de France, Duc de Berry, of 1401, 1413 and 1416: ’Item, unes petites heures de Nostre Dame...enluminées de blanc et de noir’. However, this description is not very precise, as grisaille painting was never merely black and white at that time but was always combined with (more or less sparingly used) colours. The term grisaille, as commonly used today, itself only inadequately describes the various modes it subsumes. Their only common feature is the more or less exclusive use of non-coloured pigments, while they diverge technically and aesthetically to an often astonishing extent. 2, record 83, English, - grisaille
