Garner et Allard notèrent que plusieurs espèces fleurissaient après une série de jours courts ou de nuits longues, comme le suggérèrent les études ultérieures. Ces espèces, comme le xanthium, le chrysanthème, la poinsettia et le volubilis, furent baptisées plantes nyctipériodiques (plantes de jour court); d'autres, comme la betterave, l'aneth, l'ivraie, l'épinard, la jusquiame, le radis, une variété de tabac ainsi que de nombreuses céréales, désignées sous le nom de plantes héméropériodiques (plantes de jour long), suivent le processus inverse : elles commencent à éclore lorsque les jours s'allongent.

(On distingue les plantes nyctipériodiques «préférantes» (leur floraison est seulement favorisée par les jours courts) et les plantes nyctipériodiques «absolues» qui, pour fleurir, ont absolument besoin de nuits longues (certains chrysanthèmes].

A protocol that defines a text-based format for describing streaming media sessions and multicast transmissions.

SDP is not a transport protocol but a method of describing the details of the transmission. For example, an SDP file contains information about the format, timing and authorship of the transmission, name and purpose of the session, any media, protocols or codec formats, the version number, contact information and broadcast times.

With isochronous clocking, the SDP sends a clock control signal to the receiving end of the circuit to synchronize that SDP's receive clock to the isochronous clock received at the sending node.
