The cod trap is basically a room, with four walls and a floor, constructed of netting. Fish enter the trap through a doorway in the front wall. Extending outward from the centre of the doorway is a long wall of netting which, because of its function of leading fish into the trap, came to be called the leader. The trap is kept upright in the water by floats placed along the top of the walls, and lead weights at the bottom. One of the western boundary currents of the North Pacific subtropical gyre. 4, record 8, English, - Kuroshio
Record number: 8, Textual support number: 1 OBS
A deep, narrow, and swift current, it continues from the Philippines Current in a northeastward direction from Taiwan along the continental rise of the East China Sea, through Tokara Strait, and close to the eastern coast of Japan. At 35°N it separates from the coast and flows eastward into the Pacific as a free jet known as the Kuroshio Extension. It forms a marked temperature and salinity front with the Oyashio, which meets the Kuroshio Extension from the north and then flows parallel to it. Like all other western boundary currents, the Kuroshio develops instabilities and sheds eddies. Its unique characteristic is that south of Honshu it switches between three quasi-stable paths across the Izu Ridge at irregular intervals of 18 months to several years. Volume transport in the Kuroshio increases downstream and reaches 57 Sv... in the Kuroshio Extension, increasing seasonally by 15% during summer. The current's path in the extension is characterized by large meridional excursions in the so-called First and Second Crest at 145° and 152°E. On approaching the Shatsky Rise at 157°E, the Kuroshio Extension divides into several paths that tend to recombine before the Emperor Seamounts near 170°E cause the current to split again and disintegrate. The flow then continues as the North Pacific Current. 4, record 8, English, - Kuroshio

A list of all the important formation tops picked in the well by the petroleum geologist. Notice there are two numbers for each top. The first number is the actual measured depth in feet from a fixed elevation reference point on the rig(usually the KB, or Kelly Bushing, which is located about 1 feet above the derrick floor). The second number has a minus(-) sign in front of it. This is the calculated depth of the formation top in relation to the permanent datum, which is usually sea level. This type of top is known as a "subsea" top. Subsea tops can be easily compared to each other because they are all adjusted to the same elevation reference. 6, record 10, English, - formation%20top

With regard to the Pacific side of the Arctic Basin, Overland et al.(1997) report that the position of the tropospheric cold pool is approximately centered over the Canadian Arctic and the Beaufort Sea, displaced from the North Pole by orographic effects of the North American mountain ranges. The result is advection of atmospheric heat and moisture into the Greenland and Barents seas, and the eastern Arctic. The position of this arctic cold pool in turn affects the position of the arctic front and the atmospheric circulation in the western Pacific. 1, record 13, English, - arctic%20cold%20pool

There are at least three distinct types of cold pool: 1. Large (in areal extent), slow-moving vortices at latitudes poleward of roughly 50deg N & S. They are often over, or immediately downwind of the source regions of polar or arctic air masses, in such areas as the Canadian Arctic or Siberian Russia. They take up the characteristics of quasi-permanent features, often appearing on monthly, or even seasonal average maps. The column of very cold (dense) air associated with this version of the cold pool, is reinforced by net outgoing radiation which produces a highly stable, bitterly cold near-surface environment, with a surface ridge or anticyclone on MSLP charts. 2. Once cold air from the source region as detailed in (1.) above is caught up in the circulation of mid-latitude depressions, the characteristics of the air mass are altered ... 3. A pool of cold air can also become "detached" at lower latitudes ... 2, record 13, English, - arctic%20cold%20pool

Subdued, relaxed and refined, Lunenburg is a walking town of narrow, hilly streets that lead to the sea. Visitors enjoy the dozens of wonderful old wooden homes, gaily dressed in bright reds, whites, blues and yellows. A distinctive feature of many homes is the "Lunenburg Bump", a Scottish dormer that extends out from the roof to form an overhead protecting the front door. 3, record 15, English, - Lunenburg%20Bump
