Quantitative PCR ... indicates not just whether a specific DNA segment is present in a sample, but also how much of it is there. ... Quantitative PCR is used ... to help search for and evaluate targets, i.e. the sites in the body at which new drugs can act. ... the number of working copies of a specific gene [can be] measured by quantitative PCR. ... By comparing the profiles in healthy and ill people it is possible to determine ... whether a gene ... is associated with the development or progression of a disease. ... Another important application of quantitative PCR is in molecular diagnosis, i.e. the diagnosis of diseases [particularly viral diseases] based on molecular findings rather than on physiological symptoms. 4, record 1, English, - quantitative%20PCR

PCR consists in the selective amplification of a given DNA sequence from a pathogen's genome.... PCR can be quantitative, i. e. it can evaluate the viral or bacterial load(number of pathogen per milliliter of blood), which can be very useful to follow the effect of an antibiotic or antiviral therapy. 5, record 1, English, - quantitative%20PCR

Algorithms consist of a sequence of operations whose effect on data structures can be visualized using a computer. Students learn algorithms by stepping the animation through the different individual operations, possibly reversing their effect. 4, record 2, French, - animation%20algorithmique

As you probably know, the GHRS automatically corrects observations for the effects of the motion of the HST spacecraft. This correction is done in real time as an exposure is in progress. Every minute a new shift is calculated and if necessary a change in the deflection of the spectrum is made. These onboard corrections cannot be removed after the fact except as an overall shift of the spectrum, but the net doppler compensation applied is stored in the data header. As in the case of a heliocentric correction to radial velocity, the doppler compensation is calculated from the position of the object relative to the vector of motion of the spacecraft. 3, record 13, English, - Doppler%20effect%20compensation

Probably an automatic Doppler effect compensation is used : when approaching the object, the questioning signal becomes shorter and the impulse sequence faster. Offset Branching. In many applications it is desirable for the robot system to have a method for creating a branch that can be used at a number of points in the robot cycle, a branch that can effect its sequence relative to the physical location of the robot arm when the branch is requested. In other words, the entire branch is offset about the robot's position and/or the wrist orientation. 1, record 14, English, - offset%20branching

Decorative technique using different-coloured slips. Two or more slips of different colours may be poured into a leather-hard dish or bowl, swished about and a marbled effect will result. A more controlled pattern may be obtained by first laying in a lining slip of one colour, immediately followed by trailing the other colours, either at random or in a definite sequence, the whole is then swished about as before. 2, record 16, English, - marbling

The capacity of a soil, in its normal environment, to produce a specified plant or sequence of plants under a specified system of management. The "specified" limitations are needed because no soil can produce all crops with equal success and a single system of management cannot produce the same effect on all soils.
