The technical name should be a recognized chemical or other name currently used in scientific and technical handbooks, journals and texts. Trade names should not be used for this purpose. In the case of pesticides, an ISO common name should be used.

On trouve dans le volume 3 de l'ouvrage «LAMY Transport» d'autres expressions qu'il est possible d'utiliser dans le corps d'un texte quand le contexte est suffisamment clair : appellation réglementaire des matières dangereuses (page 25); nom des marchandises (p.24); nom de la matière (p. 252); appellation de la marchandise (p. 22); dénomination de la marchandise (p. 22).

Les termes «nom chimique» et «nom technique» ne sont pas synonymes au sens strict du terme mais ils se rapportent très souvent à la même notion dans les faits, c'est-à-dire que le nom chimique est le nom technique le plus couramment utilisé.
