At the north end of the [Senate] Chamber is a dais... with a pair of thrones, the larger of the two for the Queen or the Governor General, and the smaller for the spouse of the Queen or the Governor General. For regular sittings of the Senate, the Speaker's chair is placed in front of the thrones, but is removed when the Queen or the Governor General is present. From the chair, the Speaker maintains order during the proceedings in the Chamber.

Devant ce trône se trouve le fauteuil du Président, qu'on retire cependant lorsque la souveraine ou le gouverneur général est présent. C'est d'ici que le Président dirige les délibérations du Sénat.

Bien que l'usage français préconise l'emploi de la minuscule pour les titres de poste, la majuscule à Président et à Présidente est obligatoire dans les documents concernant les délibérations de la Chambre des communes et du Sénat, car elle permet de faire la distinction entre le Président de chacune de ces chambres et les présidents des comités.
