Quadrupole ICP-MS [inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry] is currently the method of choice for laser-ablation applications since sector-field instruments are generally considered too slow for the acquisition of rapidly varying signals. However, the new generation of double-focusing sector-field mass spectrometers is capable of rapidly scanning the mass spectrum both magnetically and electrostatically, and the combination of these two scan modes approaches the performance of quadrupoles for most practical applications.... The capability of the adopted configuration to furnish high-quality in situ trace-element analysis of minerals and U-Pb geochronological data is described. 2, record 3, English, - sector%20field%20mass%20spectrometer

It is now possible to detect some genetic diseases in very early embryos by a procedure known as preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD). [...] PGD has primarily been used to determine the sex of embryos for couples who carry a sex linked disease, such as haemophilia or muscular dystrophy, (which affect only boys). Embryo sexing is achieved by subjecting the biopsied cells to fluorescent in situ hybridisation (FISH) where the X- and Y-chromosomes in the cells are labelled red and green. 4, record 5, English, - embryo%20sexing

Chromogranin B(secretogranin I or Scg-1) is a tyrosine-sulfated secretory protein found in a wide variety of peptidergic endocrine cells. Benedum et al.(1987) isolated a 2. 5-kb cDNA clone from a cDNA library of human pheochromocytoma. Chromogranin B is a 657 amino acid long polypeptide of 76 kilodaltons and is preceded by a cleaved end-terminal signal peptide of 20 residues. Chromogranin B was assigned to chromosome 20 by Craig et al.(1986). Craig et al.(1987) showed by in situ hybridization that the CHGB locus is on 20pter-p12. Jenkins et al.(1991) mapped the murine gene, symbolized Scg-1, to chromosome 2 by in situ hybridization and by interspecific backcross analysis. 2, record 6, English, - chromogranin%20B

1, record 7, French, - PCR%20in%20situ
