Pentachlorophenol is the most widely used of the chlorinated phenols in wood preservation. It is a highly effective organic chemical and is used at concentrations of 3-5% dissolved in heavy petroleum oils. Its low water solubility is an important factor in its effectiveness against wood-rotting fungi and insects.

Le pentachlorophénol est le dérivé phénolique chloré le plus utilisé dans la préservation du bois. C'est un agent chimique organique extrêmement efficace qui, dissous dans des huiles de pétrole lourdes en concentration de 3 à 5 %, sert à préserver le bois.
