Landfill methods. There are three principal landfill methods of landfilling. ... (1) Excavated cell method: This is the most common landfill method as it provides an on-site source of borrow soil for cover and is suited to most topographical settings. A cell is excavated below the ground surface with the cell being filled to a final grade above the ground level. (2) Area method: ... (3) Embankment method (ramp) ... 1, record 5, English, - excavated%20cell%20method
Record number: 5, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Two general methods of landfilling have evolved : the area method and the trench method. Some schools of thought also include a third, the slope, or ramp, method.... In a trench sanitary landfill a trench is cut in the ground and the solid wastes are placed in it. The solid wastes are then spread in thin layers, compacted, and covered with earth excavated from the trench. 3, record 5, English, - excavated%20cell%20method

4, record 5, French, - m%C3%A9thode%20en%20tranch%C3%A9es

Digital elevation data are sets of elevation measurements for locations distributed over the land surface. Elevation data have many practical uses ranging from environmental to urban. The shovel shear test provides information about the location where the snow could fail in shear. It is best applied for identification of buried weak layers and does not usually produce useful results in layers close to the snow surface. Soft snow near the surface is better tested with the tilt board and the shear frame or an improvised version of this tilt test. 3, record 7, English, - shovel%20shear%20test

Shovel Shear Test. This test can be done on a flat or on a slope. With good technique, the location of weak layers, even thin weak layers, can be found. First dig a hole or pit in the snow. The vertical wall of the pit should be straight up and down, and smooth. Make a mark on the uphill portion of one corner of your pit with your shovel blade. This will mark the boundaries of your column, which should be roughly 30 cm by 30 cm or 12 inches square.(A) Now, cut both sides using a snow saw or your ski, all the way to the floor of the pit making sure that the cuts are straight.(B) The back of the column should only be cut as deep as your shovel blade is long, so measure with your shovel blade(C) and then cut the back.(D) Next, insert your shovel, blade down, in the back cut of the column and pull gently and evenly forward being careful not to lever your shovel handle.(E) Examine the shear layer where the block failed.(F) The force applied to the shovel that causes a weak layer to shear from the layers surrounding it can be rated as follows : Very easy... Easy... Moderate... Hard... 4, record 7, English, - shovel%20shear%20test

The Rutschblock test(shear block) and it's cousin the Rutschkiel test(pronounced Rootch-kyle) have rapidly become the standard snowpit test of choice for avalanche professional who do a lot of snowpits... First, on a slope of at least 30 degrees, isolate a block of snow about a ski length across, and a ski pole length up the slope(2 meters wide by 1. 5 meters upslope). If you use a snow saw which mounts on the end of an avalanche probe ski pole you can cut the block in under a minute... Next, simply step onto the block with your skis or snowboard on and jump progressively harder until the block fails. 1, record 10, English, - Rutschkiel%20test

As soon as work is started on a cut or fill section, centerline stakes may be destroyed by equipment and many of the slope stakes will be removed. In order to eliminate resurveying of portions of the road to relocate these stakes, offset stakes are placed beyond the limits of construction and are used to relocate the original stakes. Offset stakes are set on a line at right angles to the centerline of the facility. From these, the slope/stakes can easily be located. After relocating a slope stake, the centerline stake can be relocated by measuring toward the centerline of the road the horizontal distance indicated on the slope stake and placing the new centerline stake there; Placement and marking. An offset stake will contain all the info given on the original slope stake plus the horizontal distance from the original slope stake to the offset stake. This offset distance is marked on the front of the stake and is circled to indicate that it is an offset reference. If the off-set stake is at a different elevation than the slope stake, then the cut or fill value will be increased or decreased by the difference in elevation.
