A deposit that collects at the base of a cliff or slope sediments transported by gravity.

CONT

Recent placer deposits ... are found as colluvial deposits, valley-bottom alluvial blankets in gulches and other tributary valleys, bar deposits in major river systems and beach and nearshore marine deposits.

OBS

Les dépôts colluviaux ou colluvium sont constitués de débris de roches anguleuses, plutôt grossiers et presque sans stratification. Ils s'accumulent, par gravité, au bas des pentes abruptes. Ils forment quelquefois des talus et n'ont pas une grande importance.

Les dépôts colluviaux sont en général situés très près des matériaux détritiques, anguleux, sans stratification nette [...], peu classés, les débris les plus fins étant près de la surface et les plus grossiers en profondeur. Bien souvent maudits des géologues parce qu'ils masquent les affleurements, ils fournissent aux géomorphologues des renseignements précieux sur le processus d'évolution des versants.

A bedded hillslope deposit made up of alternate layers of coarse rock fragments (up to 25 mm diameter) and finer material, and laid down in a periglacial environment. It is probably formed by a combination of frost wedging, gelifluction, and the action of meltwater derived from the thawing of frozen ground.

The storm coming from the east has produced reverse loading in alpine areas. [Example approved by the Avalanche Bulletin Terminology Standardization Committee.]

When a slope is loaded by the wind, there is a very general pattern to it, which results from the typical "weather pattern. "For example-the prevailing storm pattern in western Canada is from the southwest and this will deposit snow on the northeast side of the mountains(generally). When the weather pattern reverses and we get an "upslope" storm, the weather comes from the east and we will see a "reverse loading" pattern. So, basically it means a windloading pattern that is opposite to the prevailing pattern. [Reference : Grant Statham, Avalanche Specialist, Parks Canada. ]

Dans l'ouest du Canada, les vents dominants soufflent habituellement du sud-ouest; l'accumulation de neige se fait donc sur le versant nord-est des montagnes. À l'occasion, le vent tourne et il vient du nord-est; l'accumulation de neige se fait alors sur le versant habituellement au vent (reverse loading), soit le versant sud-ouest. Celui-ci devient donc le versant sous le vent; selon que le vent souffle contre la pente ou non on a le versant au vent ou sous le vent.
