Areas with deposition of drifted snow should be assessed very carefully: the downwind sides of ridges, hills, and ribs, and local depressions on a steep slope, "caps" of gullies, and notches. As a floor, earth can be seen as an abstract surface. If apparently level, with just enough slope for drainage, it is ready to be covered with paving, grass, ground cover, or other planting, which is necessary to prevent dust in dry weather and mud in wet weather; if sloping or irregular, earthwork may be necessary to conform to new construction or to the design plan, to provide adequate drainage, or in order to relate properly to neighbouring topography and views. 1, record 29, English, - neighbouring%20views

1, record 29, French, - vue%20sur%20le%20site%20environnant

Typically, each [shallow land burial] trench has a sloping floor cut into the natural soil and a French drain of gravel down one of the long sides. The trench bottom is covered with a foot or two of sand to allow water to flow freely into the French drain, especially when the trench is open during operations. Sampling pipes or tubes are placed against the trench wall, with their lower ends in the French drain, when the trench is dug. Monitoring of each disposal unit(engineered trench) is accomplished by sampling any water found in the French drain through these tubes and analyzing its contents. 4, record 60, English, - disposal%20module

2, record 66, French, - brai%20%C3%A0%20couverture

The Imhoff septic tank, an improvement over the ordinary septic tank, is still used in the United States; it is a two-story structure with the upper compartment used for settling the sewage, the lower one for the anaerobic disintegration of sludge. ice dam: This term was submitted to our language information service and appeared in the following sentence: "An ice dam is being installed at the back of the building to stop any ice and snow from falling on the deck." However, since we could not validate this use of the term in any other source, we do not recommend its usage. An "ice dam" is normally (and correctly) used to designate a ridge of ice that forms at the edge of an inadequately insulated and ventilated roof and prevents melting snow (water) from draining off the roof, causing ice damming (in French "digue de glace"). 8, record 88, English, - snow%20guard

In 1951 John L. Rich was the first to propose that the depositional settings of sediment accumulation on the shelf, slope, and bottom be(1) unda for shallow water overlying the shelf,(2) clino for the deeper water overlying the slope, and(3) fondo for the deepest water covering the bottom of the basin(Friedman(2001). Rich suggested the terms(1) undaform for any surface underlying an unda environment;(2) clinoform for any surface underlying a clino environment;(3) fondoform for any surface underlying a fondo environment.... Following this approach Mitchum(1977) proposed that clinoform surface be used for the sloping depositional surface that is commonly associated with strata prograding into deep water. 1, record 97, English, - unda%20environment
