A block field is a continuous surface cover of large angular to subangular rocks derived from a source of well jointed bedrock either beneath or upslope from the block covering. The blocks are generally dislodged by frost action and form a layer greater than one or two clast thicknesses (as opposed to a rock veneer, which has a thickness no greater than two clast thicknesses). 10, record 2, English, - block%20field
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 OBS
A block field can occur on a steep slope if the source rock is exposed along a high ridge or similar topographic feature, whereas the term felsenmeer refers to a block field that occurs on a flat or gently sloping surface that is derived from an underlying source. 10, record 2, English, - block%20field
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 2 OBS
The term mountain-top detritus refers to the regolith cover that mantles summits and ridges of many mid-latitude mountain ranges ... This regolith has been named as felsenmeer, blockmeer, boulder fields, or stone fields ... Several conflicting hypotheses have been suggested regarding the age and significance of mountain-top detritus in mid-latitude areas. 11, record 2, English, - block%20field

Method for the large-scale purification of enzymes. The method involves placing a protein solution into a cell containing a number of semipermeable membranes. The pH of the solution is adjusted to the isoelectric point of the protein to be purified. A current is passed through the solution by two sloping electrodes. Because the required protein is at its isoelectric point it remains stationary in the electric field; all other proteins, being charged, will move either towards the cathode or the anode. This movement will cease when the migrating proteins meet the semipermeable membranes. The accumulation of protein at the membrane surface will cause an increase in density, thus it will move to the bottom of the cell. 2, record 4, English, - multimembrane%20electrodecantation

Method of irrigation which consists of spilling water at frequent intervals from a grade ditch constructed along the high edge of a sloping field. The water is allowed to flow freely down the slope, irrigating the soils the water moves across. Interceptor ditches are placed at intervals down the slopes to collect the water. Used primarily for irrigating low-income crops on steep lands where uniformity of water distribution is not a major consideration. 2, record 5, English, - wild%20flooding

"Les terrasses Mangum" (...) consistent en un remblai de terre construit en travers de la pente, ayant une large base et des côtés peu inclinés. Une fois construites, ces terrasses ressemblent à une route traversant la pente d'une montagne. Elles sont édifiées de façon à pouvoir retenir l'eau qu'elles reçoivent et celle de la terrasse supérieure. La distance entre chacune varie avec la pente du terrain et le type de sol. (...)
