CONT

A rocket engine is a device in which propellants are burned in a combustion chamber and the resulting high pressure gases are expanded through a specially shaped nozzle to produce thrust. The function of the nozzle is to convert the chemical-thermal energy generated in the combustion chamber into kinetic energy. The nozzle converts the slow moving, high pressure, high temperature gas in the combustion chamber into high velocity gas of lower pressure and temperature. Gas velocities from 2 to 4. 5 kilometers per second can be obtained in rocket nozzles. The nozzles which perform this feat are called DeLaval nozzles(after the inventor) and consist of a convergent and divergent section. The minimum flow area between the convergent and divergent section is called the nozzle throat. The flow area at the end of the divergent section is called the nozzle exit area.

DEF

PHR

Partie supérieure du divergent.

Subject field(s)
  • Oil Production
CONT

The combustion zone can only move as fast as it depletes the coke. If the amount of coke deposited by the crude oil is excessive, the rate of advance of the combustion zone would be slow... Considerable uncertainty exists in the chemical properties of coke deposition and combustion.

There are several ways in which animation can be used in hypermedia programmes. As "animation bites" for instance, short sequences of full-or part-screen linear animation that illustrate or explain processes and are progressively or automatically played in response to the user's interaction. In longer sequences, the user has to make branching choices. Animation can also be used for attention-seeking devices, for expressive or decorative effects or as transitional effects, as feedback, and as an "autoplay" or "default" condition, which occupies the screen if the user decides not to interact with the programme.... Animation bites are used wherever the special informational, explanatory or expressive qualities of animation are required, such as in the illustration of systems and processes that are too large, small, fast or slow to be perceived, or that can best be apprehended in abstract form : plant or cell growth, for example, or manufacturing processes, the digestive system or an internal combustion engine.

CONT

Yellow Flame. This flame has a small blue-colored area at the bottom of the flame. The outer portion, or outer envelope, is completely yellow and is usually smoking. This smoke is unburned carbon from the fuel. The yellow, or luminous, portion of the flame is caused by the slow burning of the carbon that is being burnt. Soot is the outcome of the yellow flame which also produces a lower temperature than does the blue flame. The yellow flame is an indication of insufficient primary air. Incomplete combustion is also indicated by a yellow flame a hazardous condition that cannot be allowed.

OBS

Yellow flame burners depend only on secondary air for combustion.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Fumisterie et brûleurs
CONT
