Subject field(s)
  • Launching and Space Maneuvering
  • Landing Gear (Aeroindustry)
DEF

Cause a spacecraft to slow down by flying through a planet's rarefied atmosphere to produce aerodynamic drag.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Skydiving, Paragliding and Hang Gliding
CONT

A sub-formation of a large formation is called a "piece". Many sequential dives have pieces moving or turning with respect to each other. Piece flying is the result of cooperative efforts from everyone in the piece. Individuals within the piece have specialized flying jobs. These jobs relate to specific piece maneuvers. Successful piece flying is doing your job and letting others do their job.

CONT

Jump no. 10... : To introduce "piece flying". You and your instructor will... form a stairstep... [he] will initiate a 180-degree turn towards you. You then grip-switch to your instructor's other leg and he will turn the stairstep in the opposite direction.... You will grip-shift into a caterpillar and [he] will initiate a slow 360-degree barrel roll...

OBS

piece flying: A type of flying formation in skydiving.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Parachutisme, parapente et deltaplane
CONT

Record 3 2017-11-17

English

Subject field(s)
  • Aircraft Piloting and Navigation
  • Aircraft Maneuvers
CONT

Slow flight is ... the name given to a training maneuver where a pilot (often accompanied by a flight instructor) flies to a safe altitude and then deliberately slows the airplane to a speed just above its stall speed. This maneuver is valuable in that it teaches the pilot to maintain control of the aircraft in adverse conditions; it requires coordination between hands and feet in order to maintain coordinated flight; and it reminds the pilot of the signs and symptoms of a stall, attuning the pilot to recognize them should they occur in an emergency.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Pilotage et navigation aérienne
  • Manœuvres d'aéronefs
CONT

Record 4 2011-03-24

English

Subject field(s)
  • Nuclear Physics
CONT

Slow(or "adiabatic") change of the magnetic field : A change of the field direction encountered by the neutron on its way along the flight path, is experienced as a rotation of the field in the coordinate frame of the flying neutron.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Physique nucléaire
CONT
