Rasps are used by wood craftsmen, plumbers, leather and aluminum workers, blacksmiths and hobbyists. Rasps may be used on wood and other nonmetallic surfaces for fast removal of the material. A rough surface is left remaining, but the rough surface may be smoothed with a wood file or with abrasive papers. Wood rasps range from 6 to 16 inches and are available in bastard and smooth cuts on the faces. Edges are flat or rounded and are single cut. Rasp shapes are flat, half-round, and round.
