DEF

An ... interdisciplinary field of scholarship that critically examines issues related to the dynamic interplays between disability and various aspects of culture and society.

CONT

Disability studies unite critical inquiry and political advocacy by utilizing scholarly approaches from the humanities, humanistic-post-humanistic social sciences, and the arts. When specifically applied to educational issues, it promotes the importance of infusing analyses and interpretations of disability throughout all forms of educational research, teacher education, and graduate studies in education.

CONT

Disability studies have been conceived as a bridge between the academy and the disability community. ... They examine ideas related to disability in all forms of cultural representation throughout history, and examine the policies and practices of all societies to understand the social, rather than physical and psychological, determinants of the experience of disability. ... Disability studies have been developed to disentangle impairments from the myth, ideology and stigma that influence social interaction and social policy.

Imagine Canada builds on the proud history of two leading voices of Canada's charitable and nonprofit sector : the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy(CCP) and the Coalition of National Voluntary Organizations(NVO). Founded in 1974, NVO was the national advocacy and public policy voice for the voluntary sector. CCP was created in 1981 to support the work of charities, foundations, socially conscious corporations and fundraisers. In 2003, the boards of both organizations proposed an alliance, recognizing a substantial overlap in membership and advocacy objectives. The following year, their members and stakeholders endorsed a vision of a Canada where "strong and vital charities and nonprofit organizations, the private sector and governments work together for social progress and vibrant communities. "In January 2005, both organizations launched Imagine Canada.

Conformity to a body of liberal or radical opinion on social matters, characterized by the advocacy of approved views and the rejection of language and behaviour considered discriminatory or offensive.

CONT

PC for political correctness has been widely used in the nineties ironically, or pejoratively and its derivatives PC-ery (after popery and quackery), and PC-ness have been recorded.

CONT

A new ecclesiastical jurisdiction has been eating away at the margins of civil authority. It surfaced as the dispute over "Political Correctness" (PC) or the seizure of normally secular jurisdiction by campus "courts". This new orthodoxy rests on the premise that colleges and universities have a jurisdiction over the lives of their students that is independent of the law of the land. The discussion of PC has indicated the ludicrous length this new faith has reached, and has done a good deal to discredit its prophets. (National Review, October 2, 1991, p.34).
