The Montreal Council of Social Agencies(MCSA), a co-ordinating organization for English-speaking, non-Roman Catholic social agencies, was formed in 1921 by John Howard Toynbee Falk, head of McGill' s Department of Social Studies, later the McGill University School of Social Workers. Although details of the organization of the MCSA have been modified over the years, the basic structure remained constant : a Board of Directors, elected from the member agencies, directed the MCSA through administrative standing committees and, more importantly, set up numerous special committees to study specific social problems under the aegis of area advisory groups for health, aging, urban renewal, recreation, etc. The overwhelming emphasis of the MCSA on planning and research reflects its role as animator, information exchange and coordinator of a great variety of social agencies and groups, from major hospitals and fund-raising organizations to church groups and boys’ clubs. In 1968, the MCSA merged with its French homologue, the Conseil de Développement Social du Montréal métropolitain. 2, record 29, English, - Conseil%20de%20d%C3%A9veloppement%20social%20du%20Montr%C3%A9al%20m%C3%A9tropolitain

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research(CIHR) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada(SSHRC) were pleased to announce funding offered under the Community Alliances for Health Research Program. The CAHR Program is one of several transition programs launched in October of 1999 leading to the creation of CIHR. The intent of the CAHR Program is to foster excellent research of relevance to community groups and agencies in the four themes of health research : biomedical, clinical, health services and systems and population health including the social, cultural and environmental determinants of health. The program facilitates mutual learning and collaboration among community organizations and partnerships with researchers based in local universities, hospitals and other not-for-profit institutions. In addition to contributing to the improved health quality of life in communities involved in CAHRs, the program provides unique opportunities for training of health researchers in all disciplines. 1, record 37, English, - Community%20Alliances%20for%20Health%20Research%20Program

1, record 37, French, - Programme%20des%20alliances%20communautaires%20pour%20la%20recherche%20en%20sant%C3%A9

With the combined efforts of the federal, provincial and territorial governments, community groups, social agencies libraries, schools, volunteer groups and business community, CAP helps Canadians, wherever they live, take advantage of emerging opportunities in the new global knowledge-based economy. Under CAP, public locations like schools, libraries and community centres act as "on-ramps" to the Information Highway, and provide computer support and training. The Global Compact is a direct initiative of the Secretary-General. The Global Compact involves all the relevant social actors : governments, who defined the principles on which the initiative is based; companies, whose actions it seeks to influence; labour, in whose hands the concrete process of global production takes place; civil society organizations, representing the wider community of stakeholders; and the United Nations, the world's only truly global political forum, as an authoritative convener and facilitator. 1, record 48, English, - United%20Nations%20Global%20Compact

2, record 48, Spanish, - Pacto%20Mundial

In 1969, an amendment to the Parole Act led to what is today known as day parole. Under this type of parole, an offender must return to prison or a community residential centre each evening. Therefore, as day parole use grew, so did the need for centres for offender accommodation and supervision. In 1973, William Outerbridge, a professor of criminology at the University of Ottawa(who later became chairperson of the National Parole Board), conducted a study of community-based residential centres.... Following this report, the Secretariat of the Solicitor General of Canada organized a national forum on community-based residential centres. At the conclusion of this forum, the privately run Quebec centres formed the Association des membres des centres résidentiels communautaires du Québec, a move facilitated by the fact that the majority of the centres were already members of the Quebec Association of Social Rehabilitation Agencies. 1, record 52, English, - Association%20des%20membres%20des%20centres%20r%C3%A9sidentiels%20communautaires%20du%20Qu%C3%A9bec

In the province of New Brunswick, Social Service, Educational and Mental Health agencies felt that a group of multi-agency, regionally based clinical teams would have the best chance of creating the kind of care plans that would be most acceptable to the youth and his/her family, as well as to the school and community. With these facts in mind, they developed and implemented a provincial system entitled the Youth Treatment Program(YTP). The provincial Youth Treatment Program is geared to serve severely conduct disordered youths(18 years and under) who have experienced loss in family life and have faced difficulties in both school and community settings. 1, record 69, English, - Youth%20Treatment%20Program

1, record 69, French, - Programme%20de%20traitement%20pour%20jeunes
