SPANDREL GLASS [4 records]

Record 1 2017-01-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Plate or Sheet Glass
  • Glazing Materials (Constr.)
DEF

Glass coated with micro-thin layers of metallic films to substantially reduce solar-heat gain by reflecting the sun’s rays, resulting in savings in both the initial and operating costs of air-conditioning systems. The reduced light transmission also diminishes interior glare and brightness.

CONT

Reflective glass is used in four types : single-plane unit, double-pane insulating glass, laminated safety glass, and tempered spandrel glass.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Verre en feuille ou en plaque
  • Matériaux verriers (Construction)
CONT

Protections solaires.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Exterior Covering Materials
  • Walls and Partitions
CONT

In modern architectural design, the desire for large glass areas in the exterior wall has stimulated the use of prefabricated panels in curtain wall that are simply building skins with no load-bearing characteristics. Extruded aluminum or steel sections(called mullions) similar to I beams are placed over the frame. Between these mullions, windows and spandrel panels of aluminum, structural glass, marble, or precast concrete are attached. The spandrel panel is located between the head of one window and the sill of the window above.

Murs-rideaux [...]
