A machine for loading loose rock or coal. It has a tractor-mounted chassis, carrying a chain conveyor the front end of which is built into a wedge-shaped blade. Le travers-banc sert également dans les travaux de recherches ou de prospection. Cependant, le terme «laverie» est absent du Grand dictionnaire encyclopédique Larousse. Les autres auteurs ne semblent pas ressentir le besoin de distinguer «laverie» et «lavoir» et ne retiennent que ce dernier terme.
