Pour le siège, on utilise surtout les surfaces en bois, car ce matériau semble régulariser les températures. Concrete technology was kept alive during the Middle Ages in Spain and Africa, with the Spanish introducing a form of concrete to the New World in the first decades of the 16th century. It was used by both the Spanish and English in coastal areas stretching from Florida to South Carolina. Called "tapia, "or "tabby, "the substance was a creamy white, monolithic masonry material composed of lime, sand, and an aggregate of shells, gravel, or stone mixed with water. This mass of material was placed between wooden forms tamped, and allowed to dry, the building arising in layers, about one foot at a time. 3, record 51, English, - tabby

Rubbing a concrete surface is done with a stone on a wetted and preferably green surface. This abrasion in the presence of moisture works up a thin mortar which fills in surface irregularities and tends to produce a uniform mat finish. A device for small installations, comprising one or more pits extending into porous strata and lined with open-jointed stone, concrete block, precast concrete, or similar walls, capped, and provided with a means of access, such as a manhole cover. It serves to introduce into the ground, by seepage, the partly treated effluent of a water-carriage wastewater disposal system. 2, record 83, English, - seepage%20pit
Record number: 83, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The seepage pit is usually made of concrete block or is a precast concrete unit. Typically, 8-in. thick block are used, and they are laid with the cells(holes) placed horizontally to allow the effluent to seep into the ground. The tapered cells of the block are set with the widest area to the outside to reduce the amount of loose material behind the lining that might fall into the pit. The typical precast concrete seepage pit shown in Fig. 5-14 is the same unit used for drywells. The bottom of the pit is lined with coarse gravel a minimum of 1 ft deep before the block or concrete is placed. Between the block or concrete and the soil is a minimum of 6 in. of clean crushed stone or gravel. Straw is placed on top of the gravel to keep sand from filtering down and reducing the effectiveness of the gravel. The top of the pit should have an opening with a watertight cover to provide access to the pit if necessary. The construction of the pit above the inlet pipe should be watertight. 3, record 83, English, - seepage%20pit

Rammer test.... A test for investigating the resistance of a geotextile to puncturing by falling stones has been developed by the Bundesanstalt fur Wasserbau... in Germany. This test is carried out with a special 30 kg rammer.... The rammer test is carried out with a fall height of 2. 0 m or 1. 0 m depending on the stone to be used in the construction. The geotextile is placed on a layer of compacted sand and kept in place by means of a 170 kg concrete ring. Three tests are carried out in the machine, cross and diagonal direction of the geotextile. A geotextile is considered to be puncture resistant in this test if all the tests carried out show no puncturing. Each test is carried out on a new specimen. 1, record 95, English, - rammer%20test

Percement. 2, record 95, French, - essai%20de%20percement%20au%20poin%C3%A7on

A geotextile is considered to be puncture resistant in this test if all the tests carried out show no puncturing, Each test is carried out on a new specimen. 1, record 96, English, - puncture%20resistant

Percement.

When a greater volume and higher velocity of water run-off has to be dealt with, asphalt, concrete or stone can be added to the swale to lessen the possibility of erosion. In various parts of Canada, these are referred to as paved swales, hard-surfaced swales, or flumes. 1, record 98, English, - paved%20swale
