STONE FORMATION [6 records]

Record 1 2024-09-11

English

Subject field(s)
  • Urinary Tract
CONT

Stone formation in the human body is one of the most interesting subjects in medicine. The condition is apparently as old as the human race and has been mentioned in ancient medical treatises of many countries. Among all the locations in the human body, the urinary tract forms the most frequent site for stone formation. Bladder stones, also called bladder calculi, often form when concentrated urine sits in the bladder. As urine stagnates, minerals in the urine form various crystals that might combine to form stones.

OBS

vesical calculi; vesical calculuses; bladder calculi; bladder calculuses: plural forms.

Key term(s)
  • vesical calculi
  • vesical calculuses
  • bladder calculi
  • bladder calculuses

French

Domaine(s)
  • Appareil urinaire
CONT

CONT

The SAGR consists of a clean stone bed that is fully aerated. In a typical configuration, water flows through the substrate horizontally, and a layer of insulating wood chips, mulch or shredded tires at the surface prevents ice formation in the bed, allowing the system to treat wastewater that is near freezing(<0. 5 °C).

OBS

DEF

A bed of fragments of inert material through which waste water is caused to percolate for the purpose of purification by means of an active biological film on the inert material.

CONT

Trickling filter. [It consists] of an artificial bed of coarse material, such as broken stone... slate, slats, brush, or plastic materials, over which wastewater is distributed or applied in drops, films, or spray from troughs, drippers, moving distributors, or fixed nozzles, and through which it trickles to the underdrains, giving opportunity for the formation of zoogleal slimes which clarify and oxidize the wastewater.

DEF
