Each player delivers two stones, alternately with his opponent, from one end of the playing area to a target about 42 yards away.

OBS

The technical term is "deliver": it bears all the efficiency needed to position a rock on the intended target. The words "throw" and "pull" express more force and vigour than the conjugated strength and precision needed to place a rock on the targeted spot.

OBS

Le curling étant un jeu d'adresse, le terme «tirer» est plutôt rustre pour désigner le lancer de la pierre qui se veut toujours un geste contenu et précis, parfois en puissance mais souvent en retenue.

Even if it is the delivered rock that adopts this revolving motion while going on its way, it is also possible that the hit rock reacts as such, as in "roll a rock out of the house," "roll a rock out of play.".

OBS

rouler (verbe) : Pour une pierre lancée, se déplacer en tournant sur elle-même après avoir frappé une pierre stationnaire sur le jeu. Bien que ce soit la pierre lancée qui adopte ce mouvement giratoire tout en continuant sa course, il est aussi possible que la pierre frappée réagisse ainsi, comme l'expriment les expressions «faire rouler une pierre en dehors de la maison», «faire rouler une pierre hors jeu».

OBS

Ne pas confondre «rouler hors jeu» qui se dit surtout de la pierre lancée, et «faire rouler hors jeu» qui se dit de la pierre frappée par une pierre lancée avec, comme conséquence, de la sortir du jeu après avoir provoqué cette rotation sur elle-même. Quant à «sortir une pierre du jeu», l'expression se dit peu importe la façon dont la pierre en a été expulsée, qu'elle ait été roulée hors jeu ou frappée de plein fouet.
