STRUCTURAL DEFECT [8 records]

Record 1 2017-12-07

English

Subject field(s)
  • Human Diseases - Various
  • Perinatal Period
CONT

Congenital anomalies... approximately 15% of newborn infants have one or more minor structural anomalies. Those with two minor defects have a 10% risk of a major malformation, and those with three or more minor defects have a 20% risk for a major defect.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Maladies humaines diverses
  • Périnatalité
CONT

OBS

cacomorfosis: (de "caco"[malo] y el gr. "morphé", forma) deformidad o malformación

CONT

The present work aims at trying out Acoustic Impact Technique as a possible means of deployment at field level for the purpose of flaw detection in composite helicopter blades. The principle underlying Acoustic Impact Testing is simple. The sound produced when a structure is tapped is mainly at the frequencies of major structural modes of vibration, which are structural properties. Any difference in the sound is necessarily due to modification affected to the force input by the defect in the structure. A study of the force time history of response or its fast fourier transform makes it possible to locate and detect sub surface flaws.

Type of non-destructive material testing.

Subject field(s)
  • Law of Contracts (common law)
  • Law of Obligations (civil law)
DEF

Defect: An imperfection in material or work which renders it unfit for the intended use. It may be a patent defect which is immediately obvious or a latent defect which is only revealed with the passage of time. The contractor has an implied liability for both patent and latent defects... It is usual in building contracts... to impose an obligation on the contractor to make good any defects which appear during the stipulated defects liability period.

Domaine(s)
  • Droit des contrats (common law)
  • Droit des obligations (droit civil)
CONT

In dysmorphology, a type of structural defect characterized by the abnormal form or position of a body part, caused by a nondisruptive mechanical force.

French

Domaine(s)

CONT

The X-ray diffraction results, in fact, point to a new form of structural disorder called phason disorder, which is unique to quasicrystals. If one compares a Penrose tiling or a quasiperiodic sequence with a conventional crystal, one sees that the quasiperiodic structures have the ability to generate a new form of disorder during growth : a defect can arise when the wrong kind of unit cell, or line segment, falls in a particular place. A few isolated mistakes will not affect the diffraction properties of an entire sample, but if many such mistakes plague a sample, they will disturb the diffraction patterns.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Physique des solides
CONT

Screw symmetry can be interpreted as a combination of translation and rotation operations, and it might seem that the corresponding defect if merely a combination of a dislocation and a disclination. Actually it is a distinct kind of structural defect, which has been given the name dispiration.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Minéralogie
  • Mesures et analyse (Sciences)
CONT
