SUPERCOMPUTING [9 records]

Record 1 2023-05-29

English

Subject field(s)
  • Computer Hardware
  • Atomic Physics
CONT

The crucial part is the quantum chip, which is a processor built from the superconducting materials aluminum and niobium, then chilled in a tank of liquid helium. It achieves supercomputing speeds because its basic data units—called qubits—can hold both the values 0 and 1 simultaneously, and instantly share those values among all the qubits.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Matériel informatique
  • Physique atomique
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Computer Mathematics
  • Scientific Research
CONT

Supercomputing, or high performance computing, is using the largest computers available to tackle the biggest problems facing science, society or industry. Whether generating computer models of unprecedented fidelity in the aerospace, biological or climate sciences, or analyzing vast amounts of data from astronomy, business data in industry, or textual or musical data in the humanities, supercomputing is a rapidly-growing set of hardware and skills applicable to building Canada's skills and capabilities in science, technology, and the economy.

Campo(s) temático(s)
  • Matemáticas para computación
  • Investigación científica
CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Computer Hardware
CONT

High performance computing infrastructure — Supercomputing, also known as high performance computing(HPC) puts supercomputers and computer clusters to work to solve complex and advanced problems in a variety of research disciplines.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Matériel informatique
CONT
