In the Budget 2000, the Government of Canada is providing $100 million to establish the Sustainable Development Technology Fund, which will be administered by a third-party foundation. The fund will stimulate the development and demonstration of environmental technologies, particularly those aimed at reducing greenhouse gases(GHG) emissions, such as fuel cells and new construction technologies, as well as improving air quality, such as clean coal technologies. Funding would be available to the private sector, research centres and other institutes. The Sustainable Development Technology Fund will encourage innovation by helping companies develop new technologies and bring them to market.
