Compound Slides(CS). A compound landslide is composed of a large host landslide... that encompasses smaller secondary landslides... The host landslide is a slow-moving landslide set on a gentle slope(<20°) of epiclastic materials. Its surface is irregular, with depressions, bulges, scarps and counterscarps and distensile, compressive and strike cracks. The movement of the host landslide can generate failures that favor secondary landslides located mostly along the steepest slopes of the host landslide(scarps and toe). Diverse types of secondary landslides may be observed on the same host landslide. Multiple levels of groundwater flow are commonly formed within compound landslides due to the presence of multiple low permeability surfaces(faults, cracks, material heterogeneities, and shear planes). An increase in the water table tends to accelerate host landslides and may contribute to secondary landslide failure. 1, record 1, English, - host%20landslide

Universal hashing is a technique used in computer science and information theory for designing hash functions. It is a family of hash functions that can be efficiently computed by using a randomly selected hash function from a set of hash functions. The goal of universal hashing is to minimize the chance of collisions between distinct keys, which can lead to degraded performance in hash table operations. 2, record 4, English, - universal%20hashing

Doorside pickup. A common way for customers to get their curbside orders is by retrieving them right at the front door of the business. In order to minimize contact and maximize efficiency, many stores set up a table with orders right inside their front door so customers don’t have to walk through the entire store or restaurant to retrieve their order. Cupping is one of the coffee tasting techniques used by cuppers to evaluate coffee aroma and the flavor profile of a coffee.... In a coffee cupping session, the table is usually set up with 6 to 10 cups per coffee. These are fashioned in a triangular manner. At the top of this triangle you should place a sample of the roasted coffee and a sample of the green coffee. In the center of the table place a cup of room temperature water and an empty cup containing the cupping spoons. Cover both the green sample and roasted sample until the cupping session is over and the coffee aroma, fragrance, and flavor profile have been documented. After this time, the coffee samples could be uncovered and additional comments can be written based on appearance. This method will help reduce the common "eye cupping" technique. 2, record 21, English, - coffee%20cupping

DOUGLAS, Douglas Sea State. Douglas Sea Scale. Douglas Scale. Douglas Swell Scale. Douglas Sea and Swell Scale. ... what do they mean? Douglas is the name given to a set of tables used to describe sea and swell conditions. The Douglas Sea tables refer to the waves generated by the wind in the locality at the time, the Douglas Swell tables refer to decaying waves originally generated by distant winds, and the Douglas Sea and Swell tables are a combination of the two. Originally, Douglas made no mention of heights or wave periods, and used only words to define the sea and swell conditions, e.g., slight sea, moderate sea or long low swell, short moderate swell. The combined definition was produced by a sea description followed by a swell description. But different publications have interpreted the Douglas Scales to produce wave heights and periods; and different interpretations have led to confusion. According to the World Meteorological Organisation, there is no internationally recognised definition or official status for any of the Douglas scales. 2, record 36, English, - Douglas%20scale

The first table of the value of a life annuity of which we have any record, called the Ulpian Table(devised by a great Roman jurist, Ulpianus), arose out of the Falcidian Law. This law, enacted in B. C. 40, prevented a testator leaving more than three-quarters of his property to others than his legal heirs. It therefore became necessary to set a value on any legacies which were in the form of annuities payable for a fixed term or for life. 1, record 58, English, - Ulpian%20Table

Representative operating data for a six-effect set of evaporators are given in Table 10-1. As the solids content increases, so does the difference between the boiling liquor temperature and the condensing temperature of its associated vapor. This temperature difference(called the "boiling point rise") significantly reduces the available driving force for heat transfer in the higher-solids effects and is a major factor limiting the number of effects which are feasible in a set of evaporators. 1, record 74, English, - boiling%20point%20rise

Regression-nested Procedure. As can be seen from Table 1, the population estimates as of June 1, 1982 are the regression estimates, but for other years 1983 to 1986 they are obtained by adding the change in the regression estimates to the second set of the population estimates(obtained by the component procedure) for the preceding year. This approach ties together the two sets of the portcensal estimates for a specific reference date. 2, record 93, English, - regression%2Dnested%20procedure

Description des méthodes. 1, record 93, French, - m%C3%A9thode%20des%20estimations%20embo%C3%AEt%C3%A9es
