Compound Slides(CS). A compound landslide is composed of a large host landslide... that encompasses smaller secondary landslides... The host landslide is a slow-moving landslide set on a gentle slope(<20°) of epiclastic materials. Its surface is irregular, with depressions, bulges, scarps and counterscarps and distensile, compressive and strike cracks. The movement of the host landslide can generate failures that favor secondary landslides located mostly along the steepest slopes of the host landslide(scarps and toe). Diverse types of secondary landslides may be observed on the same host landslide. Multiple levels of groundwater flow are commonly formed within compound landslides due to the presence of multiple low permeability surfaces(faults, cracks, material heterogeneities, and shear planes). An increase in the water table tends to accelerate host landslides and may contribute to secondary landslide failure.

Universal hashing is a technique used in computer science and information theory for designing hash functions. Cupping is one of the coffee tasting techniques used by cuppers to evaluate coffee aroma and the flavor profile of a coffee.... In a coffee cupping session, the table is usually set up with 6 to 10 cups per coffee. These are fashioned in a triangular manner. At the top of this triangle you should place a sample of the roasted coffee and a sample of the green coffee. In the center of the table place a cup of room temperature water and an empty cup containing the cupping spoons. Cover both the green sample and roasted sample until the cupping session is over and the coffee aroma, fragrance, and flavor profile have been documented. After this time, the coffee samples could be uncovered and additional comments can be written based on appearance. This method will help reduce the common "eye cupping" technique.

Either of two arbitrary series of numbers from 0 to 9, used separately or in combination to define qualitatively the degree to which the ocean surface is disturbed by fresh waves (sea) generated by local winds, and by decaying waves, or swell, propagated from their distant wind sources ...

CONT

Douglas scale, denomination, height waves (m): 0 calm, 0 m.; 1 nearly calm, < 0.1; 2 little moved, 0.1 - 0.5; 3 moved, 0.5 - 1.3; 4 a lot moved, 1.3 - 2.5; 5 rough, 2.5 - 4; 6 much rough, 4 - 6; 7 flood, 6 - 9; 8 much flood, 9 - 14; 9 stormy, > 14.

OBS

The "state of the sea" is the locally observed motion of the waves generated by the combined effects of "wind sea" and "swell."

OBS

DOUGLAS, Douglas Sea State. Douglas Sea Scale. Douglas Scale. Douglas Swell Scale. Douglas Sea and Swell Scale. ... what do they mean? Douglas is the name given to a set of tables used to describe sea and swell conditions. The Douglas Sea tables refer to the waves generated by the wind in the locality at the time, the Douglas Swell tables refer to decaying waves originally generated by distant winds, and the Douglas Sea and Swell tables are a combination of the two. Originally, Douglas made no mention of heights or wave periods, and used only words to define the sea and swell conditions, e.g., slight sea, moderate sea or long low swell, short moderate swell. The combined definition was produced by a sea description followed by a swell description. But different publications have interpreted the Douglas Scales to produce wave heights and periods; and different interpretations have led to confusion. According to the World Meteorological Organisation, there is no internationally recognised definition or official status for any of the Douglas scales.

OBS

The Douglas scale is a scale to estimate the state of the sea whereas the Beaufort scale is an internationally recognised table with a standard set of wind speed values.

OBS

state-of-sea scale; sea state scale: these terms frequently refers to the "Douglas scale" and sometimes to the "Beaufort scale" ("Beaufort sea state scale)." Sea state numbers and wave height values are sometimes appended to Beaufort tables, however they are not standardized and may differ from one source to another.

Representative operating data for a six-effect set of evaporators are given in Table 10-1. As the solids content increases, so does the difference between the boiling liquor temperature and the condensing temperature of its associated vapor. This temperature difference(called the "boiling point rise") significantly reduces the available driving force for heat transfer in the higher-solids effects and is a major factor limiting the number of effects which are feasible in a set of evaporators.

Des valeurs représentatives du fonctionnement d'un système à six effets sont données au tableau 10.1. Regression-nested Procedure. As can be seen from Table 1, the population estimates as of June 1, 1982 are the regression estimates, but for other years 1983 to 1986 they are obtained by adding the change in the regression estimates to the second set of the population estimates(obtained by the component procedure) for the preceding year. This approach ties together the two sets of the portcensal estimates for a specific reference date.

Description des méthodes.
