Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 OBS
synthetic aperture radar; SAR :[A] synthetic aperture radar(SAR) is a side-looking imaging radar usually operating on either an aircraft or a spacecraft. The radar transmits a series of short, coherent pulses to the ground producing a footprint whose size is inversely proportional to the antenna size, its aperture. Because the antenna size is generally small, the footprint is large and any particular target is illuminated by several hundred radar pulses. Intensive signal processing involving the detection of small Doppler shifts in the reflected signals from targets to the moving radar produces a high resolution image that is equivalent to one that would have been collected by a radar with a much larger aperture. 4, record 3, English, - C%2Dband%20synthetic%20aperture%20radar

The aircraft proceeds to a corner of the search area and, flying at the allotted height, sweeps the area maintaining parallel tracks, the first of which is at a distance equal to the sweep width from the side of the rectangular area. Successive tracks are flown parallel to each other but at twice the sweep width apart.

1, record 42, French, - avion%20l%C3%A9ger%20d%27observation

The greatest menace to the United States Navy towards the end of World War Two was Japanese aircraft, primarily the Kamikaze. As part of the solution the USN installed AA [anti-aircraft] systems on their warships, big and small. An integral part of the system was the AA gun director, which allowed more than one battery to concentrate on a single target. BAE Systems has delivered the first production Directional Infra Red Countermeasures(DIRCM) anti-missile protection turret. The system is being fitted to transport aircraft and helicopters in service with American and British armed forces and will protect the aircraft from infra red heat-seeking missiles by jamming the seeker... DIRCM is a revolutionary protection system, which is designed to detect the launch of a heat-seeking missile, determine if it is a threat and track its flight, before defeating its seeker head with an emission of infra red energy. The missile loses its lock on the target and very quickly veers off its course and is destroyed. 2, record 61, English, - DIRCM%20turret

[The] B-2 Spirit originally started as Project Senior CJ and [was] later renamed as ATB(Advance Tactical Bomber). The B-2 uses four F-118 Turbofans.... The turbofan has intake and exhaust at the top of the aircraft to prevent ground control to spot them. The pilot and co-pilot are seated side by side in a zero-zero vertically ejecting ACES II seats.... a B-2 can get updates for GPS satellites to avoid ground firing while the pilot spots the target. Once the target is found, the pilot will turn on special radar, which only scan the target area and once spotted the B-2 will launch its nuclear ordnance or SRAM II missiles.... the B-2 provides the penetrating flexibility and effectiveness inherent in manned bombers. Its low-observable, or "stealth, "characteristics give it the unique ability to penetrate an enemy's most sophisticated defenses and threaten its most-valued, and heavily defended targets. Its unrefueled range is approximately 6, 000 nautical miles(9, 600 kilometers). The B-2's low observability is derived from a combination of reduced infrared, acoustic, electromagnetic, visual and radar signatures. 2, record 66, English, - advanced%20tactical%20bomber

(...), the MTD [Moving Target Detection] principle involves dividing up the entire radar coverage area into small range-azimuth cells-(...) called ’coherent processing intervals’(CPI). Eight pulses generated at a constant repetition frequency are assigned to each cell, and each return is subjected to Doppler filtering over a range of velocity values. The particular feature of MTD is its ability to measure the density of clutter and to detect the sudden presence of an additional element-such as an aircraft moving into a particular cell-even though it may have zero relative velocity on account of its tangential track. 1, record 89, English, - coherent%20processing%20interval

1, record 89, French, - intervalle%20de%20traitement%20coh%C3%A9rent
