TARGET AMPLITUDE [14 records]

Record 1 2022-05-31

English

Subject field(s)
  • Optics
  • Computer Graphics
  • Photography
CONT

The image recorded on the holographic plate is called a hologram of the target, which carries both the amplitude and phase of the returned, scattered beam from the target. The first exposure of the holographic plate by the reference beam results in a reference hologram, while the second exposure by the returned beam imposes all changes of the target to the reference hologram.

DEF

A form of action tremor which increases the amplitude as the action nears completion, as when a pointing finger approaches its target. This tremor is diagnostic of a lesion of cerebellar tracts or connections and is most often seen in multiple sclerosis.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Radar, Radio Guidance and Goniometry
  • Atmospheric, Climatic and Meteorological Phenomena
DEF

A radarscope display in which targets appear as vertical deflections from a line that represents a time base.

OBS

Target distance is proportional to the horizontal position of the deflection from one end of the time base, and target echo signal intensity is proportional to the amplitude of the vertical deflection. On some scopes the display is rotated 90°, so the time base is vertical and the signal pips increase from left to right horizontally.

The NRC [National Research Council] also has the capability of measuring the Optical Transfer Function (OTF) of a lens. The OTF is a consistent method of image quality evaluation for an optical system.

OBS

It includes the phase relationship between the target and measured signals(i. e. the apparent change in position of the sinus dal pattern as a function of its frequency) as well as the amplitude change as a function of frequency.

CONT

When both the amplitude and the phase information are available, it is possible to synthesize the polarization response for all the polarization states. To synthesize the response, phase information and two orthogonal(transmit and receive) polarization states are required. For example, most spaceborne SAR's(e. g. RADARSAT-2) use the HH and VV polarization configuration to satisfy the orthogonality condition. Three dimensional polarization response plots are typically used to illustrate the polarimetry response for a given target. The following conventions are commonly used : The radar response is normalized between 0 and 1 [. ] The horizontal axes are the ellipticity angle... and the orientation angle... The ellipticity angle ranges between-45°(right circularly polarized) and +45°(left circularly polarized). When [ellipticity angle equals 0°, we have linear polarization. The orientation angle... is usually defined between-90° and +90°, but is sometimes defined between 0° and +180°.

CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Optical Instruments
CONT

The Positron Microscope was designed and built to be a hybrid instrument capable of performing several types of positrons and electron microscopy. For both electrons and positrons the microscope can be run in one of two modes : magnifying mode in which particles leaving the target are focussed onto a CEMA plate assembly to form a magnified image and scanning mode in which the amplitude of a signal is recorded as a function of the position(and possibly energy) of the incident beam. As an electron microscope the instrument will be able to operate in both magnifying and scanning(SEM) modes. As a positron microscope, however, source considerations will limit its immediate use to magnifying mode, i. e. positron reemission microscopy.

An apparent target in a radar which does not correspond in position or frequency or both, to any real target, but which results from distortion or misinterpretation by the radar circuitry of other real target signals which are present. For example, it may result from range-Doppler ambiguities in the radar waveform used, from intermodulation distortion due to circuit amplitude nonlinearities, or from combining data from two antenna systems or waveforms.
